Relief Work
Since its establishment in 1991, Sheva Nari O Shishu Kallyan Kendra (SHEVA) has been actively supporting vulnerable communities affected by natural disasters, humanitarian emergencies, industrial accidents, and public health crises. Guided by the principles of compassion, solidarity, and human dignity, SHEVA remains committed to providing timely assistance to those most in need.
Bangladesh is one of the world’s most disaster-prone countries, facing recurrent floods, cyclones, river erosion, urban fires, and other emergencies that disproportionately affect poor and marginalized populations. In response to these challenges, SHEVA has consistently undertaken relief and rehabilitation initiatives to support affected families and communities.
Over the years, SHEVA has successfully implemented emergency relief operations in various disaster-affected areas across the country. The organization provided humanitarian assistance to families affected by the devastating fire in Korail Slum, Dhaka, distributing emergency relief materials and supporting affected households during their recovery process.
SHEVA also conducted extensive relief operations during the severe floods in Sylhet and Sunamganj, where thousands of families were displaced and faced shortages of food, clean water, and essential supplies. Emergency food packages, safe drinking water, hygiene materials, and other necessities were distributed to vulnerable families to help them cope with the crisis.
In addition, SHEVA carried out relief and humanitarian support activities in several flood-affected communities in and around Dhaka City, providing emergency assistance to low-income families whose homes and livelihoods were severely impacted by flooding. These interventions helped communities address immediate needs while reducing their vulnerability during the disaster period.
A significant milestone in SHEVA’s humanitarian work was its response to the Rana Plaza tragedy, one of the most devastating industrial disasters in Bangladesh. Following the incident, SHEVA established support services for affected children and families, providing nutritional support, psychosocial counseling, educational assistance, and child care services to help survivors rebuild their lives and restore hope for the future.
During the COVID-19 pandemic and other public health emergencies, SHEVA worked closely with communities, factories, local government institutions, and development partners to promote health awareness, hygiene practices, and access to essential services. These initiatives contributed to strengthening community resilience and protecting vulnerable populations from health-related risks.
